Square Enix has announced some pretty curious news at this year’s Tokyo Game Show – they’re venturing into cloud gaming with a new company dubbed simply “Shinra Technologies.”

The New York based company will be headed by the former president and CEO of Square Enix, Yoichi Wada. So that’s what he’s been up to (plotting his world domination) all of this time?

Through utilizing “proprietary cloud technologies,” the resurfaced Shinra company is hell-bent to “change the game industry ecosystem”, although they’re promising this by providing new gameplay experiences.

Shinra Technologies are boasting an “optimized datacenter environment,” and coming from this the company is going to work closely with high profile game developers to create entirely new game experiences. Could this mean the company will also be incubating game projects as well? The company is also heading a game streaming platform dubbed simply “Dive In”, which recently saw action with Final Fantasy XIII running on a tablet.

Their very own virtual supercomputer is said to provide experiences not seen on game consoles, or even PC – according to the publisher. Currently, Square Enix is courting developers around the world to create Shinra projects, with Ubisoft being one of the more notable studios.

While a beta service for the streaming platform is coming to both the United States and Japan sometime in 2015, for now you can visit Shinra’s official website here.
