Chaos Chronicles Lives??

Last year, we hardcore CRPG nerds got our dice bags all in a tizzy over news that Chaos Chronicles was axed by its publisher. Though many interviews were done on the reason for its cancellation, the rationale behind it being canned was still a bit cloudy. Regardless, many of the fans who followed it were forced to remove their bookmarks and move on.

Well, I never did. Matter of fact, I kept Chaos Chronicles on my steam wishlist at #1, mainly as a sign of me refusing to forget this gem almost existed. Now, this is relevant, because while looking for a new game to play last night, I checked my wishlist to see if anything was on sale and noticed that Chaos Chronicles was now named “Century of Chaos”.

This started to make me wonder if perhaps the game was getting a second chance. Seems I wasn’t the only one who noticed this, since my fellow grognards over at the RPGCodex reported on it too.

Not that it hasn’t stopped anyone, but this can’t be easily explained away. With no reason whatsoever to rename a game community page for a game that was cancelled nearly a year ago, it’s hard to pass this off as asset management. Not only that, but with the wild and run-away success of other recently released turn-based CRPGs like Divinity and Wasteland 2, it’s not far fetched to think someone isn’t eager to push Chaos Chronicles out the door to grab a piece of that pie. Doubly so when you realize that the game was already 90% complete when it was halted. Easy money, if you ask me.

This is something I’ll be keeping an eye on as time goes by, you have my word on that.
