Former BioWare Developers Reveal New RPG, “Everstar”

Ever since Greg Zeschuk and Ray Muzyka left BioWare, it seems like the now EA-owned developer isn’t the edgy RPG creation house they once were. With some key defections, BioWare has had a lot of staff pack up and move out over the past few years. Some of those exiled staffers must have been busy because while I wasn’t looking they went and formed a new studio called “Psycho Sorted”, and debuted their first Kickstarter: new 3D RPG, “Everstar”.

The game, which is still in the pre-alpha stages, is being billed as “the first truly 3D party-based action RPG” and, if you can believe it, a “tactical Dark Souls” experience. Pretty big words for a new indie studio … but the actual gameplay description does seem pretty interesting.

Everstar will share quite a bit in common with Baldur’s Gate, at least in the way that its turn-based-with-pause combat and 6-person teams work. As if that weren’t enough, the final game will support 6-player co-op, as well. Though it looks a tad cartoonish and has that World of Warcraft feel, it looks like it might strike that delicate balance between hardcore CRPG and more relaxed fare.

We’ll find out in April, 2016, provided that their Kickstarter succeeds.
