Shadow of the Eternals Resurfaces Under New Studio With Renewed Ambition

Following two cancelled Kickstarter campaigns, Shadow of the Eternals, the spiritual successor to Eternal Darkness, has resurfaced.

The game is being handled by Denis Dyack (of Blood Omen: Legacy of Kain and Eternal Darkness fame) and a crew of veteran developers under a brand new, transmedia company Quantum Entanglement Entertainment, or QE2 for short. Shadow of the Eternals had been put on hold back in September of last year, so it’s nice to see it having another chance.

The original Kickstarter was looking for $1.35 million dollars but was mired with conspiracy theories from various other outlets, and its second Kickstarter campaign didn’t fare too well, either, hence the game having to go silent for awhile. Speaking with IGN UK, Dyack confirmed the game was in production again, and that he and his team were approaching it from a slightly different angle this time:

“(We’re) looking at it from a film and television side. We’ve got more going on that we’re just not ready to talk about yet.”

Dyack is the co-founder and CCO of Quantum Entanglement Entertainment; Jonathan M. Soon-Shiong (formerly of deputy executive director of strategy and finance for the CBC) is the CEO; and COO Paul Rapovski previously held a position as a television producer and is the co-founder of Fast Motion Studios.

The most interesting thing about all of this is easily the transmedia bit, as the company is also working on film and television projects:

“A lot of the television that you’re seeing is really bleeding into a lot of the things that we do in video games. A lot of the things that you see in film are bleeding into a lot of the things that we do in video games. I wanted to do something that was a lot more than just video games.”

This bold approach to development is also evident in the company itself, where their “Singularity” concept is currently in play. The Singularity is a forum in which fans of the company can directly interact with creative projects, right alongside the professionals who are working on them. An example was given where a fan could submit a mock up script, and the team can peruse it and potentially use it in a game or film.

So what do you guys think? Are you excited to see Shadow of the Eternals get another chance?
